Q. If I buy a new cordless drill, will the lithium-ion batteries fit into my older Hitachi cordless drill?
A. Yes, as far as 'cartridge' style batteries go, they are compatible within the same voltage, however lithium-ion batteries need a fan cooled charger so you can’t use your old non fan cooled charger with lithium-ion batteries. It is also worth noting that Hitachi has just introduced a new range of Lithium Ion tools that take 'slide' type batteries. These new slide batteries are only compatible with the new slide type tools.
Q. Where do I find out what carbon brushes fit my Hitachi tool?

Q. Where can I buy Hitachi Power Tools from?
Q. Where is my local Hitachi Service Agent?
Q. How long is the warranty on my Hitachi Powertool?
A. All Hitachi Power Tools imported by the New Zealand Distributor are guaranteed for 12 months against any defects in workmanship or materials. Defects in construction or operation not attributable to normal wear, overloading, abusive treatment or careless handling will be repaired without charge by any Hitachi Service Agent.
Continued use of the tool after partial failure, or use with improper accessories will void the warranty. This warranty does not apply to parallel imported or second hand product, or product that has been sold by someone other than an Authorised Agent of the New Zealand Hitachi Power Tool Distributor.
Q. Is cordless better than corded?
A. Cordless tools are great for convenience, however they will not replace the power of corded tools. Talk with your Hitachi Dealer about the best solution for your situation.
Q. What is the best way to care for Hitachi batteries?
A. The user has the most influence on the life of the battery and its performance. Failure to correctly store and charge batteries is the biggest single factor for a shorter than expected lifetime. We have added more specific advice on battery care below.
Q. Why does my new battery seem to have a lower capacity than my old one?
A. A new battery will need 5 to 7 charges before reaching full capacity (run time). Just use as normal and capacity will improve.
Q. Can I put my battery on charge straight after use?
A. No, always allow the battery to cool down before charging. A battery will not charge correctly if it is hot. If a tool has been operated under heavy load the battery should not be charged until it has been allowed to cool down. In any case, your Hitachi charger can tell if the battery is too hot and will not charge the battery until it has cooled down sufficiently.
Q. Can I use a partially charged battery?
A. You should always complete a charge cycle. A battery has a limited number of charge cycles, hence incomplete or unnecessary charges will shorten the life of the battery.
Q. Can I store my batteries for long periods of time, ready for use?
A. It's best to have batteries charged as close as possible to being used. Self discharge can be higher in warmer climates. On that note, it is important that batteries are not exposed to extreme heat for prolonged periods, e.g. being left in a hot vehicle or left on a roof.
If you are not going to use your batteries for a few months, the best results are achieved by charging Ni-MH prior to storage and near discharging Ni-Cd battery prior to storage. They will need a few charge cycles to reach full potential again once reactivated.
